ROCKPORT — The Thacher Island Association is holding its annual Art and Photography Show with a free public opening event.
The opening reception takes place at the renovated Community House on 58 Broadway on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. The show runs through Sunday, Aug. 26.
The show is open to all artists, both professional and amateur, providing for a range of prices for those interested in art. Proceeds benefit the association, which oversees Thacher Island and its twin lighthouses, as well as restoration efforts at Straitsmouth Island.
Organizers anticipate more than 80 artists and photographers will take part. Last year, there were nearly 400 pieces of artwork and photographs, and a similar number is expected this year.
Artwork includes selections created on Thacher Island during the association’s recent Art and Photo Days as well as a diverse selection of subject matter.
Paul St. Germain, president of the Thacher Island Association, said there were about 75 people who participated in the Art and Photo Days, when artists and photographers flock to the island. About 30 photographers left around 4 a.m. to catch the sunrise, and the rest took a later boat out to the island. Some of these artists and photographers take part in this show.
“This show includes some of the work from the art days and the rest is from different artists from Cape Ann who want to exhibit and sell their work so there is a great variety,” said St. Germain.
Admission is free. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Call Linda at 978-546-2250 or email thacherart@gmail.com for more information.
