Tell us how you got started in the arts. How old were you and what piqued your interest?
I started singing in elementary school but lost interest and joined the band for middle school. When I reached high school, the choral director heard I had sung in elementary, and I was fascinated by the a cappella group. With my director’s encouragement, I was quickly accepted into the choral community.
Why do you love your art?
A cappella and chorus attract a unique group of people. These people demonstrate a passion that can only be described as infectious. I am happy to say I got the bug.
What is one of your proudest accomplishments within your art field?
Reaching the All-State chorus is my proudest accomplishment as a singer. It was a great privilege to sing with hundreds of other musicians that shared a love of their art. They demonstrated an incredible level of talent.
How have you balanced school with your art?
There are always conflicts between these two parts of my life, and I am passionate about both. It is fortunate that my choral director on one side and my teachers on the other have been very understanding and accommodating.
What are some of your future goals related to your art?
I hope to make it to All-States for my senior year. I also hope that beyond high school, I will be able to incorporate chorus and music into the rest of my life instead of just letting it die. It has been a unique learning experience and a pleasure.
