---- — Theatergoers will be treated to performing arts when they visit Gloucester Stage this season.

The stage company is again collaborating with artists from Rocky Neck Art Colony for the summer art exhibits in the stage’s lobby, lounge and entrance. The two neighboring organizations launched the collaboration in 2011.

The exhibits will change with each new show opening in the Gloucester Stage 2013 season.

The opening exhibit, featuring works by Otto Laske, runs through July 14, the performance dates of the Gloucester Stage season opener, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening.” The exhibit is open for viewing on performance days only.

Theatergoers and the public will be able to view the exhibit one hour before the curtain opens for each performance. “Spring Awakening” runs tonight and Saturday, July 6, at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, July 10, through Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m.; Saturdays. July 6 and 13. at 3 p.m.; and Sundays, July 7 and 14, at 4 p.m.

Laske was born in Wroclaw, Silesia, Poland, when it was still a part of Germany. He was educated in Germany, The Netherlands, and the U.S., and now lives on Cape Ann. His visual work is influenced by a prior 45-year experience in music composition.

“My life-long artistic pursuits, most of them based on working with the digital computer, include music, poetry, and more recently work with digital images,” Laske said. “The need to express myself is ongoing, and that need is focused on flow. I have combined music and poetry, not just my own, many times, as shown in my repertory of compositions.”

“My visual work since 2009, shown as an accompaniment to Gloucester Stage’s ‘Spring Awakening,’ is based on animation work in which I design image sequences that interpret the structure of my sounding compositions. I found while working on animations that single frames taken from them lend themselves readily to creating visual stills, whether ‘photography’ or ‘digital painting.’

Laske is a member of Rockport Art Association Section Photography, Rocky Neck Art Colony, the Photographic Resource Center, Boston, and the Griffin Museum, Vimeo, the Studio Artist Community, and Visual Music Village. His digital photography has been exhibited at Rocky Neck Art Colony and Rockport Art Association, Section Photography. His work can also be found at

The 2013 Summer Art Exhibit at Gloucester Stage closes Sept. 22, running during the theater’s entire 34th season. New artists are exhibited when a new show opens.
