Quartet to play at Oscars party

The 85th annual Academy Awards will be shown in high definition on the big screen at Cape Ann Community Cinema’s annual Oscar Party. The event starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.

The New England String Quartet will play a mixture of movie favorites and classical chestnuts. The red carpet show starts at 8 p.m., with the ceremony, hosted by “Family Guy” guru Seth MacFarlane (nominated for Best Original Song for his tune from “Ted”), starting at 8:30 p.m. 
Movie snacks from around the world will be served, and every guest will have the chance to win a movie party for 100 people by guessing the winners in the seven major categories.

Mary Ann and Mace Wenniger, artists and owners of The Wenniger Cottage Gallery, are celebrating 41 years of arts on the North Shore in their career as artists and gallery owners with a special “For the Love of Art” Open House and sale. Residents of Manchester for 44 years, the couple moved their home and gallery to Gloucester two years ago, after they sold their gallery in Rockport. The Wennigers are known for their extensive collection of contemporary and vintage original prints. 
The gallery has a collection of figurative and abstract subjects ranging from New England forest scenes to Chinese scrolls.  The collection also includes watercolors, large and small aquatints and etchings, decorative silk-screens and lithographs, historic white-line woodcuts, wood engravings and drypoints, handmade papers and more. There are also collagraphs by Mary Ann Wenniger and figure paintings by Mace Wenniger.
The open house is Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wenniger Cottage Gallery at 70 Holly St. in Gloucester.  For more information or an appointment, call 978-281-1181 or visit
