---- — An exhibit featuring wearable art opens on Rocky Neck this Sunday, while an author will be in town to introduce a movie based on one of her best-selling novels.
The nonprofit Cape Ann Community Cinema at 21 Main St. in Gloucester will present the local premiere of “Tiger Eyes” on Monday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m.
The movie is based on the book of the same name penned by beloved author Judy Blume, who wrote children and young adult classics such as “Superfudge” and “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.”
Blume will host a book signing from 6 to 7 p.m., and answer audience questions following the film.
“Tiger Eyes” tells the story of Davey (Willa Holland), a 17-year old girl living in New Mexico who sets out on a journey from heartbreak and confusion to transformation as she discovers love and life after tragedy. The film was directed by Blume’s son, Lawrence Blume, and has been called a “heartfelt adventure of a movie” by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.
Tickets and information are available online at www.CapeAnnCinema.com.
“Silk Metal Glass: Art to Wear,” is the next exhibit in Summer Artists Series sponsored by Rocky Neck Gallery. The show, which is curated by jewelry artist Deborah Way, features three Gloucester artists working in glass, metal and silk: Beth Williams, Camilla MacFadyen and Mer Anderson.
A free public reception is this evening (Saturday, July 6) from 5 to 7 p.m. The reception is an opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their process in creating art to wear.
The theme of this show highlights the rich materials these artists choose to work with to create their version of art in a wearable format. Each artist’s chosen medium complements the styles and materials used by the others; these materials vary between hard and soft, matte and shiny, bright and muted.
This collaboration runs for three weeks to July 23 at Rocky Neck Gallery,53 Rocky Neck Ave. in Gloucester. For more information, visit www.rockyneckgallery.com or call 978-282-0917.
