Rockport goings on


Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Legion meeting

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 98 of Rockport will meet Monday, Oct. 5, 7 p.m., at Legion Hall, Beach Street. Officers will be installed. Members are urged to attend this meeting as plans will be made for the Christmas Gift Shop and other activities.

Pigeon Cove Circle

Pigeon Cove Circle will meet Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m., to plan upcoming events and fundraisers. The circle will sell chili, vegetarian chili and chili dogs at Barletta Park during the Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 18, noon to 4 p.m. The circle will also hold its second annual Halloween party, for kindergartners through fifth-graders, Sunday, Oct. 25, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Cove Circle Center, Breakwater Avenue. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Games, prizes and food will be available. Admission is free.

Fundraiser dinner

The Rockport High School Class of 2013 will hold a fundraiser dinner Wednesday, Sept. 30, 5 to 7 p.m., in the high school cafeteria. Menu includes baked chicken, rice, squash, desserts and beverages. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased from a member of the Class of 2013 or by calling 978-546-1234. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Head Start program

Pathways for Children's Rockport Head Start preschool has openings for this year's session. Located on the Rockport Public School grounds, Head Start is a free, comprehensive preschool program that is open four days a week. The program also offers free breakfast and lunch, as well as health and nutrition education, parent activities and support, and assistance in obtaining special needs services. Kennebunkport tour

Rockport Seniors and Friends will travel to Kennebunkport on Tuesday, Dec. 8, for a tour of the historic Nott House, lunch at Kennebunkport Inn, shopping at Dock Square stores and galleries and a stop at Stonewall Kitchen. Blessing of the animals

The Blessing of the Animals will be held, rain or shine, on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2 p.m., at Millbrook Meadow, in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The Rev. Karin E. Wade, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, invites all Cape Ann pets to the annual blessing. Animals should be on a leash or in a cage or carrier. A donation will be taken to benefit the Cape Ann Animal Aid Association.

Documentary viewing

Cape Ann Community Cinema, 21 Main St., Gloucester, will host a viewing of the documentary film about Lyme disease, "Under Our Skin," on Monday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Flu vaccination clinic

The Rockport Board of Health will hold a flu clinic for seniors 65 and over and adults with chronic medical conditions Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1 to 3 p.m., at Rockport United Methodist Church, 36 Broadway. Wear a short-sleeved shirt and bring Medicare and Senior HMO insurance cards. Information on H1N1 clinics will be provided at a later date.
