---- — Another sign of the ushering in of spring on Cape Ann happens next Thursday when the North Shore Arts Association opens for the season with a wine and chocolate potluck party.

The arts association, which has more than 300 member artists from throughout the region and farther afield, is celebrating more than 90 years of its organization.

The season opener takes place May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its historic building at 11 Pirates Lane in East Gloucester. Those attending are asked to bring something chocolate to share.

The season’s first exhibition features more than 100 works, including oil, watercolor and pastel paintings as well as graphic works and sculpture.

Rockport artist Ken Knowles, the group’s president, said the public is invited to meet the association’s new board members.

The board members have been busy giving the gallery a “new look” with a redesigned and renovated reception area, new paint, and a new sound system.

Also new is Kathleen Staab, the interim gallery manager, who is assisted by Holly O’ Connor, the assistant gallery manager.

This season, the North Shore Arts Association will hold six exhibitions from May through the end of October, and its annual live auction on Aug. 17.

The association also offers several free demonstrations, workshops for all ages, lectures, critiques, a live art auction, concerts and more. For more information, visit www.nsarts.org.
