The Boat Parade of Lights will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30, to be followed by fireworks over Gloucester Harbor, as part of the Gloucester Schooner Festival events.
Organizers are putting a call out to all boaters to have some fun and decorate their vessels with lights and other props. All entrants receive a $100 gift certificate for fuel and other gifts. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Pre-registration is recommended or just show up in the Annisquam River at Jones Creek at 6:30. Parade gets underway at dusk, around 7 p.m. Monitor Channel 6 VHF on night of Parade for specific information.

Parade gets underway about 7 p.m., starting at Jones' Creek. The parade travels down the Annisquam, through the "Cut" bridge around the perimeter of the inner harbor and ends back in the outer harbor.
The fireworks follow after all parade boats have been anchored in the harbor.
Sunday, August 31 is the scheduled rain date. Cash prizes for the boats are: 1st: $500; 2nd: $300; 3rd: $200; 4th: $100. There are also runner up prizes.
The Bluenose is coming
The Schooner Thomas E. Lannon will host a Welcome the Bluenose sail on Friday, Aug. 29 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Lannon will sail out, greet the Schooner Bluenose II and sail in company back into Gloucester Harbor. Tickets for this great photo opportunity are $60/person and include a continental breakfast. Seating is limited and reservations are requested.
The Bluenose II, a reproduction of Nova Scotia's most famous fishing schooner, will be berthed at the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, for Schooner Festival. Last week of Safety
For the past six weeks Blackburn Performing Arts has been rocking each Monday with '80's dance party sensation SAFETY. Conceived by Dan King, the evening is designed to get you out of the house, out of your chair and up on the dance floor.
The evening opens with tunes being spun by the latest addition to the Gloucester music scene | DJ Express. At 9:30 the band takes the stage and The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" gets the night going with a roar. The next forty five minutes features an array of '80's dance hits that has the house dancing.
The last show takes place this Monday.
Harbor Loop free concert
The Harbor Loop Concert Series will present Mile 21 and Jamm Down this evening at Harbor Loop located off Rogers Street, starting at 6 p.m.
Mile 21, formed in 1999, has played at many local and North Shore venues as well as festivals throughout the country and Canada in the last year. The band performed music from their last album "Nine Ivy Days" at the Warped Tour at the Comcast Center in Mansfield.
They have been recording their latest album, which is as of yet untitled, with local Cape Ann producer, Bradley Royds and studio engineer, Scott Rodgers.
Joining them will be long time friends Jamm Down, led by singer/steel pan percussionist, Michael Gabriel, who also fronts the recording group "Shango Axe," which released their debut album last year.
Families and friends are encouraged to bring their beach chairs and blankets for sitting at The Fitz Henry Lane Park at Harbor Loop.
Two more shows will be held, Sept. 4 featuring The Fundamentals, and September 18 featuring Elegant Trash/Major Nelson & The Screaming Jeannies.
Fourth summer show at the RAA
The Rockport Art Association 4th Summer Shows in Painting, Graphics, Sculpture & Photography will be on display until Sept. 25. The public is invited to an artist reception to be held on Sunday, Sept 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Museum presents tour of the sculpture collection
Join Cape Ann Museum curator, Martha Oaks, for a tour of the Museum's sculpture collection. This one-hour program will take place at the Museum at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday. The program is free with the price of admission to the Museum.
The tour will highlight works by Charles Grafly, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Walker Hancock, Katherine Lane Weems and George Demetrios. Special attention will be paid to the current special exhibition of works by James T. McClellan. The tour will begin in the Museum's recently installed sculpture courtyard and continue on through the Museum's galleries.
Curator's Choice Tours are scheduled for the last Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. No reservations are necessary.

Little Art Cinema features 'Up the Yangtze'
An award-winning film titled "Up the Yangtze" will be shown at the Little Arts Cinema from Saturday, Aug. 30 to Sept. 11. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. The cinema is located in downtown Rockport at 18 Broadway.
The film is primarily set on a cruise ship on a tour of the "mythic" Yangtze River and explores the human impact of the Three Gorges Dam project on the river "as history is erased in the turmoil of China's economic miracle."

New gallery celebrates boatyard

Ensemble Warhol will celebrate the wonders of the night sky with a performance of "Tierkreis," a chamber theatre piece by the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, featuring sets by Rocky Neck Art Colony artist Heidi Zander. JoeAnn Hart, local author, will read from her forthcoming book of stories based on real estate ads, "Search Now!"
Margi Green will do her performance piece, "Lights in Movement," and Rick Drost will sing his timeless romantic ballads and country with a twist.
Local musicians, Three Sheets to the Wind and Schooner Adventure crew members, will sing maritime work songs.
