The local filmmaker and video editor who was part of an award-winning documentary team spotlighting the St. Peter's Fiesta Greasy Pole Walk has earned another honor.
Emile Doucette of the Bail & Tackle Co. in East Gloucester has been named winner of a commercial production contest hosted by the Haverhill-based music radio station WXRV, best known as The River 92.5 FM.
The rules of the "Show Us Your River TV Commercial" contest called for creating a 30-second TV commercial for the popular radio station.
Doucette said his commercial, titled "Sunlight," features time-lapse photography of blooming flowers, a fitting theme for a radio station that is 100 percent solar-powered.
"As a young filmmaker and video editor," Doucette said, "it was really quite an honor to be recognized for my talents. And actually, the win really surprised me because I didn't start editing the piece until the night before the deadline. But I thrive on that kind of pressure, and it really paid off."
The prizes include over $3,000 in video production equipment, and a trip to Belgium to see a performance by the band Coldplay. The commercial is featured on 92.5 The River's Web site, wxrv.com, and is expected to be broadcast on commercial television in the near future.
The honor is the latest in a string of recognitions for Doucette, who, along with colleagues Michael Pallazola and Tom Papows, earned the acclaimed Educational Services Award in the International Documentary Challenge at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto last month. The local group's documentary focused on The Greasy Pole Walk, a centerpiece of St. Peter's Fiesta.
