Offering help to local caregivers

November is National Family Caregiver Month. SeniorCare Inc. is the local provider of the Family Caregiver Support Program, the purpose of which is to help care givers access community-based services, such as training, support, counseling, respite, adult day care, and other supplemental services, as well as to offer information about care giving, additional services, and support.

The Family Caregiver Support Program offers local assistance for those who are caring for an adult age 60 or older, caring for an Alzheimer’s patient of any age, or those who are 55 years or older and are raising a grandchild (or young relative), or caring for a disabled person.

In honor of Caregiver Month, SeniorCare has partnered with NortheastLink Care Management and Spectrum Adult Day Health Program to bring a free program for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease to SeniorCare on Nov. 7 and 14. Reservations are required for the two-session “Essential Caregiver: A Real World Toolkit for Family Caregivers” and respite care is provided.

Caregivers might also wish to attend the upcoming Alzheimer’s conference sponsored by the North Shore Alzheimer’s Partnership. This year’s “Caregiver Connections” takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Boston North Shore (formerly Coco Keys Water Resort), 50 Ferncroft Road in Danvers, on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission $10 per person. Pre-register by calling 781-897-1774 or emailing nscaregiverconnections@gmail.com. Respite care is available on site. Professional continuing education unit credits are available as well. On the agenda are an inspiring keynote and choice of three workshops:

Keynote address: Embracing the Journey with Phyllis Delaricheliere

Workshop A: Managing Challenging Behavior with Beth Desrochers

Workshop B: Interdisciplinary Team Management with Dr. Elisabeth Broderick

Workshop C: The Legal Caregiver: Steps to Take Now with attorney Stephen Spano
