Cocktail features trifecta of flavors

Lemon, basil, vodka give drink its 'pop'

As the often unbearable heat of August descends, cool off with a delicious and refreshing cocktail — a Meyer lemon and basil “pop.”

A Meyer lemon is both sweet and acidic, making it the perfect partner for the distinct freshness of homegrown basil.

In this drink, Rhode Island chef Nick Rabar uses Tito’s Handmade Vodka, distilled from corn, rather than the usual wheat or potatoes, in Texas.

Lemon, basil and vodka have been favorite ingredients for many mixologists, so the combination of the three classic ingredients yields a perfect trifecta of flavor: sweet and tart lemon, the garden taste of fresh basil and the mildly sweet vodka.

Crafting the cocktail is easy, too. Simply muddle the lemon and basil and add the vodka, sour mix and lemon soda and add ice.

Nick himself said: “(This is the) perfect summer time sipping cocktail; just be careful; they are dangerously addicting!”
