A female driver trapped for more than an hour in her overturned vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 128 was taken by Med-Flight to a Boston-area hospital, and police have reopened the roadway to traffic after it had been shut down between Exits 14 and 15 for more than two hours.
Crews who responded to the scene had to extricate the woman — an unidentified Gloucester resident who was the vehicle’s only occupant in the single-car crash — while the Med-Flight helicopter awaited transport after landing on the highway. With all northbound traffic blocked at the scene, police were then directing all northbound traffic off Route 128 at Exit 15, the exit for School Street in Manchester. The crash also forced the shutdown of southbound traffic while the helicopter was preparing for takeoff.
