Gloucester District Court: Teen gets jail time for Crow's Nest assault

A Gloucester man will serve 26 days in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Addam LeClaire, 19, of 109 Gloucester Ave., pleaded guilty to the charge Tuesday in Gloucester District Court.

Judge Joseph Jennings handed LeClaire to a six-month suspended jail sentence, with 26 days to be served. The rest will be suspended until April 2013.

LeClaire was also fined $50 after pleading guilty to a charge of possessing alcohol.

Officers had sought complaints against LeClaire after a fight outside of the Crow's Nest in February. After breaking up the fight, officers spoke with a bartender who said LeClaire had been kicking one of men involved in the scuffle.

A Rockport man was ordered to pay $300 in court costs to dismiss charges of not placing rabies or identification tags on his dogs.

John Hazelguard, of 90A Pleasant St. in Rockport paid the $300 to dismiss the charges after Rockport animal control sought a complaint against him last June for having loose untagged dogs on Haskell Street.

Jennifer Spanks, 32 of 35 Fuller St., Gloucester, paid $150 in court costs to dismiss a charge of driving on a suspended license. Gloucester police stopped Spanks in February and found she was driving with her license suspended.

A charge of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute brought against a Billerica man was continued without a finding in Gloucester District Court on Monday.

Matthew Pierce, 23, of 8 Primrose Road in Billerica faced charges of drinking in public and possessing marijuana. He paid $50 in court costs to dismiss the first charge.

Judge Richard Mari continued the possession charge until October 2011. Pierce will be subject to random screens for six months of the continuance.

Police arrested Pierce last June when they found him and a woman sitting in his pickup on at Good Harbor Beach. When officers approached, they saw Pierce throw a beer can into the creek beneath the bridge at the beach.

Officers asked him to produce some kind of identification and noticed that he was rummaging through his vehicle as if to hide something.

Police asked him to step away from the truck and arrested him for drinking in public. They then found a pill bottle containing several packets of marijuana in the truck. The woman found a ride home.
