Gloucester Police/Fire: Former spouse fight over his prep time for outing

A long shower landed an Atlantic Road man in hot water with his former wife, and then police.

Charles D. Bonnano, 73, of 87 Atlantic Road, was arrested late Tuesday night after an altercation with his former wife and is facing charges of domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Police are also seeking a complaint against his former wife, Fedelena Bonnano, 52, of the same address, for domestic assault and battery.

Police were called to the couple's Atlantic Road home at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a domestic assault involving a knife. When police arrived at the condominium, they reported finding Fedelena Bonnano in the kitchen, bleeding from cuts on her arms, and there was a large pool of blood and glass on the floor.

Charles Bonnano told police the couple had been living together for the past year despite being divorced and had an argument because she wanted to go out and he was taking too long. He told police his ex-wife threw a glass bottle on the floor and cut herself while attempting to pick up the pieces; he also noted that she attempted to make herself bleed more. He told police he was scratched on the wrist and showed police visible cuts. He refused medical attention.

Fedelena Bonnano admitted to having an argument with her ex-husband because he was in the shower for an hour and a half. She told police that she went to check on him and confronted him about finding a vodka bottle in the bathroom. She told police that he became very upset that she saw him drinking in the shower, and that he later smashed six bottles of vodka on the kitchen floor. She also told police that her ex-husband pushed her to the ground, but said the cuts were accidental from picking up the glass.

According to police reports, Fedelena Bonnano was out of sorts and told police she was afraid of her ex-husband, only to tell them moments later that she was lying and not to arrest him. She was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital for her injuries.
