ESSEX — Police received a report of a Main Street mailbox being struck by a motor vehicle at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday. Officers responded and determined that it was not an act of vandalism.

Police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the Story Street area at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday; a car had rolled into a drainage area. One person was transported to Beverly Hospital and Detective Ryan Davis is investigating the situation.

Janis Xillas, 59, of 65 Summershade Court in Amherst, N.Y., was arrested for a marked lanes violation and drunken driving at 11:02 Wednesday night. She was pulled over on Main Street and arrested after officers found that she had been drinking.
