A Rockport man was sentenced yesterday to 90 days in jail on charges stemming from a May altercation by Judge Joseph Jennings in Gloucester District Court.
David Hanson Jr., 27, of 2A Hodgkins St., Rockport, was sentenced to serve 90 days and a year's probation after pleading guilty to charges of resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. Hanson was also sentenced to a year's probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct stemming from the same incident.
Hanson was arrested in May after police spotted two motorists changing a car's tire in the parking lot of Rose's Wharf on Main Street, Gloucester. Police arrested a woman at the scene wanted on an outstanding warrant. But, according to police reports, Hanson then began to walk away from officers, telling them he didn't have anything to say and to talk to his lawyer.
When police attempted to frisk Hanson, who had his hands in his pockets, he struggled and swung his arms at police. Police said he struck an officer with his elbow during the altercation.
William J. Papp, 18, of 30 Norwood Heights, Gloucester, was ordered to pay a $100 fine for driving an unregistered vehicle and had charges of driving an uninsured motor vehicle dismissed upon the payment of $150 in court costs. The charges against Papp stem from a May incident where he was driving a car he had just bought without a license plate. According to police reports, the car was not yet registered or insured.
Jessica Maria Delima, 28, of 36 Poplar St., Gloucester, was ordered to pay $100 in fines on unregistered motor vehicle charges. She also had uninsured motor vehicle charges dismissed upon the payment of $150 in court costs. The charges against Delma stemmed from an incident in May, when police observed her car parked on a public road way. Police ran the information on the car because it had not been moved in weeks, authorities said.
