Rockport schools hosting special education forum

ROCKPORT — Citing the high costs of special education needs for the school district, officials have organized an open forum to discuss the costs facing the district.

The projected cost of special education is more than $4 million; school leaders have previously said that providing students with a proper education is mandatory. Many special education students need to travel out the of the district to see their educators.

Pam Girouard, director of Student Services, will host the forum, which will address the district’s legal responsibilities to its students, how the district plans to meet those responsibilities and funding challenges.

School Committee members will also be attending.

The event is slated for Wednesday, March 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the library at Rockport Middle and High School, off Jerden’s Lane.
