Gloucester Police/Fire: License reader tabs alleged parking scofflaw

Gloucester Police, using a cruiser’s license plate reader, found a car on Veterans Way whose owner had 22 unpaid parking tickets at 1:21 a.m. Tuesday.

The officers called the owner, who said she had the tickets taken care of and told the officers that she believed “they were out to get her.”

Police had the car towed from the scene.

Officers received a complaint about people living in an unfinished house on Naomi Drive, Monday at 9:12 p.m.

Police spoke to a man and woman inside the home who said they moved in over the weekend. When police asked the man if he had an occupancy permit to live in a house that was “clearly under construction,” he said he got verbal permission from the Building Inspector to do that.

Police said they would notify the building inspector.

Police responded to Veterans Way after a resident complained that kids were playing in his yard Monday at around 6 p.m.

Officers who responded didn’t see any kids on his lawn, but found them on the grass near the Gloucester Housing Authority maintenance shed. An officer told the kids not to throw balls around anyone’s apartment.

A Burnham’s Street resident told police Monday at 5:11 p.m. that she had received several harassing phone calls from her niece over the last few days.

She said she wanted a report on file and planned on filling out a form to seek a restraining order later Tuesday.

A Ferry Street resident told police at 4:39 p.m. Monday that her neighbors had left several bags of trash in her yard.

The neighbors, she said, bought the house next to hers, but haven’t fully moved in yet. Police checked the area after seeing a trail of rubbish leading from her neighbors’ yard to hers, but determined that animals got into the bags and dragged them.
