Rockport Police/Fire: Three electric problems bring crews to Granite Street

ROCKPORT — Granite Street was a trouble spot Monday with emergency personnel called for three separate incidents.

The Fire Department responded to reports of a transformer fire on Granite Street bout 3:08 p.m., but the fire had fizzled out when firefighters arrived, according to police. Police notified National Grid electric company of the burnt transformer.

At 3:41 p.m., a Granite Street resident reported a downed wire shooting up balls of fire. Police notified National Grid, and the electric company brought a tree crew to the scene to clear the area of the downed wire, police said.

Because of the damage, police said the road was blocked off, with officers detouring vehicles and bus service to the area shut down.

The roadway was cleaned, and power restored by 7 p.m., according to police.

Police blocked off Granite Street again about 8:57 p.m., while National Grid spent about 40 minutes repairing sparking electrical wires on the street.

Police shut down access to Beach Street after water and debris from the adjacent beach began washing up over the road Monday about 10:15 p.m., according to police. Police said the beach was reopened in the morning.

A fallen tree on South Street knocked down power lines Monday about 3:32 p.m., according to police. Crews from the Fire and Public Works departments cleared the area, and police notified National Grid.

A Bearskin Neck resident was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester by ambulance Monday about 7:17 p.m., according to police.
