Manchester Police/Fire: Boater, paddle boarders clash

MANCHESTER — Police received a report at 5:43 p.m. Sunday of a boater harassing paddle boarders in the town's harbor.

The boat, police said, was "doing doughnuts" around the boarders and creating waves.

Police called the U.S. Coast Guard, who responded to the incident.

Police arrested Ben Sawyer, 27, of 55 Pleasant St. in Wenham on a charge of driving with a revoked license; the car was stopped Saturday at 10:58 a.m. on Pine Street. A passenger in his vehicle drove the vehicle home, police said.

Police dispersed a group from Singing Beach on Friday at 11:30 p.m. The group left without issue.

A Summer Street resident called police to report a loud party on a neighbor's back deck. Police responded at 12:37 a.m. Saturday and told the group to move inside. The group complied.

A resident reported a smell of gas on Sea Street on Saturday at 10:35 p.m. police alerted National Grid, which sent a crew to investigate.

The Beach Street railroad crossing gate was stuck down at 9:52 a.m. Officers notified the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), which dispatched a crew to fix the problem.

Police said the sticking gate has been an ongoing issue.
