Rockport Police/Fire: Florida man faces weapons charge

ROCKPORT — A Florida man was arrested early Monday morning on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm after he was taken to Gloucester's Addison Gilbert Hospital.

Roger Hartnett, 51, was picked up by an ambulance at Five Corners at 1:23 a.m. Monday after he called and said he felt ill. While speaking with him, police officers called to the scene noticed that he had ammunition and a gun on his waist.

While Hartnett was in the hospital, police checked into the registration on the gun, and arrested Hartnett when officers determined that he allegedly had the gun and ammunition illegally.

The Fire Department was called to Stockholm Avenue at 9:51 a.m. Monday for a report of someone burning brush. Nothing, however, was found at the scene, police said.

At 12:12 p.m. Monday, a Cape Ann Transportation Authority bus broke down on Sandy Bay Terrace. Police assisted the bus driver.
