Essex Police/Fire: Essex firefighters quell stove blaze

ESSEX — The Fire Department was called to the scene of a stove fire at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday on Winthrop Street.

The house was evacuated and the street blocked off, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters cleared the scene at 7 p.m.

A man called police at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday to complain about the noise made by patrons leaving a Western Avenue business at closing time the previous night. Given the time of the call, police did not respond.

A police officer reported finding a bone near Martin Street at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday.

The officer, however, reported that the bone apparently belonged to a deer.

An Eastern Avenue resident called police to report a cat stuck in a tree on Eastern Avenue at 8:32 p.m. Tuesday. Food was left at the base of the tree for the cat.

A raccoon was reported on the wheelchair ramp at the T.O.H.P. Burnham library on Martin Street at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday. When police searched for the animal, however, it could not be found,
