ESSEX — Today's Route 133 ribbon cutting ceremony in Paglia Park is expected to close the Main Street Causeway for about 15 minutes, Essex police said Thursday.
The ceremony, celebrating the completion of the Route 133 highway project, and being hosted by the Essex Merchants Group, begins at 2 p.m. and the ribbon cutting runs until 2:15 p.m.
While that's happening, said Essex Police Chief Peter Silva, the town will have the road closed off to traffic.
State Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Glouceter, state Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, D-Gloucester, representatives from the office of Gov. Deval Patrick and other elected officials will attend and offer their perspective on the importance of the growing partnership between the town and the state.
The merchants group organized the day's events and will host a lunch starting at noon at Periwinkles.
Tickets for the luncheon are $20 at the door on the day of the event. Anyone seeking more information may contact Essex Selectwoman Susan Coviello at 978-768-7619.
