Rockport Rambles: Santa needs help this Christmas

Rockport Rambles
James Niedzinski

---- — The children of Rockport have been receiving goodies from Santa in Dock Square for more than 100 years; and this year, Santa needs some help.

The Rockport Christmas Tree Committee needs a horse and buggy to help Santa Claus on Christmas morning. If anyone on Cape Ann would like to help, please contact Buddy Woods at 978-546-2229, ext. 10.

Horror comes to Thacher Island

Independent producer Greg Stone has made Thacher Island the shooting location of his new film, “Tidewalkers” which was filmed earlier this year.

The story centers on a TV crew in search of the paranormal. They quickly experience much more of the supernatural than expected; it features Boston area actors and the official trailer is on Youtube.

Stone has already raised significant money from equity investors, and is starting a Kickstarter campaign for supplemental financing. See http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gstone/the-tidewalkers for more details.

New event at Old Sloop

Old Sloop Coffeehouse will present a performance by James Keelaghan on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Rockport, 12 School St.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 from oldsloopcoffeehouse.org, at Gloucester Music, and at Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport. Suggested donation at the door is $12 for adults, $7 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, and $24 for a family.

These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures. This year, the council will distribute approximately $4,250 in grants. Information and application forms are available at www.mass-culture.org, or at the Rockport Town Library and Town Hall clerk’s office.
