Essex Police/Fire: Essex emphasizes kitchen fire prevention

Essex Police/Fire

ESSEX — The Essex Fire Department is reaching out to Essex residents to help prevent kitchen fires.

Next week is Fire Prevention Week, and the Essex Fire Department is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association to remind local residents to take proactive steps to prevent kitchen fires.

During this year’s fire safety campaign, fire departments will be spreading the word about the dangers of kitchen fires — most of which result from unattended cooking.

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, The Essex Fire Department will host an open house next Thursday 4 to 6 p.m. at the Martin Street station.

The event will not only offer fire education information, but also pizza provided by Cape Ann Pizza and fire apparatus and equipment displays.

Some common fire prevention tips are always keeping an eye on the stove and shutting off any burners, even if you only leave the room for a moment or two.

Police conducted a well-being check after a report that a pregnant woman on Southern Avenue appeared to be in distress Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Police said the woman was fine; she was just waiting for someone to pick her up.

Wednesday at 3:39 p.m., police took a report of a past motor vehicle accident that happened in the municipal parking lot behind the police station. Police characterized the accident as “minor,” with less than $1,000 total damage.
