Gloucester Police/Fire: Man faces assault, weapons charges

A Gloucester man is facing assault and weapons after police questioned him in the parking lot outside the Walgreen’s store off Rogers Street.

Police responded to a report about a man with a knife at 10:30 a.m. Monday, and, according to the report, an officer soon spotted Joseph Young, 27, of Knowlton Square in the parking lot.

Police inquired whether anything had happened involving a knife, or if Young knew of any such incident. Another man then approached and told police that Young had threatened him with a knife and he was in fear for his safety.

The man also spoke of a knife hidden in a plastic shopping bag, which police found behind a trash can. Another man told officers he had seen Young with a knife.

The police report indicates that the exchange was over a woman. Young is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police arrested Mark Groves, a 25-year-old homeless man, in the area of Washington Square after receiving a report of a man breaking and entering into parked cars Tuesday at 5:13 a.m.

Monday at 7:45 p.m., police arrested a Willow Street man on probable cause of domestic assault and battery.

According to the police report, 20-year-old Cody Farris was arrested on Pleasant Street.

Police are charging a Main Street man with shoplifting Monday at 12:47 p.m. after he was observed taking four bookmarks without paying at a Main Street business.

According to the police report, camera footage from the store showed 41-year-old Michael Hinchey taking the bookmarks, while a staff member at Toodeloos! reported the same.

Police caught up with him on Hancock Street, where he admitted to taking the bookmarks, according to the police report.

Police arrested Sean Fagan, 49 of Western Avenue, at the Crow’s Nest on Main Street at 10:12 a.m., on a warrant of apprehension. The report did not indicate the charge on the initial warrant.

A Commonwealth Avenue man was also charged on an active warrant after police stopped his vehicle for failing to use a turn signal on Monday at 4:25 p.m.

According to the police report, John Lococo, 59, was arrested on an active warrant.
