Essex Police/Fire

ESSEX — A Forest Avenue man was arrested Friday night following an incident that started on Western Avenue and ended outside the Martin Street police station Saturday morning.

Timothy Hunt, 58, of 27 Forest Ave. faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop, simple assault and battery, resisting arrest, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, operating to endanger, disorderly conduct, leaving the scene of an accident and a civil charge of defective vehicle equipment.

Police first received a report that a woman walking down Western Avenue was being followed by a vehicle. Police then tried to pull the car over, but the driver, whom police say was Hunt, continued and hit the vehicle of the person who called police, Sgt. Paul Francis said.

At one point, Hunt also grabbed the woman walker, resulting in the assault and battery charges, police said.

Francis said the pursuit and arrest took several hours, and Hunt was finally detained with pepper spray after resisting arrest. He was transported to Middleton Jail to await court proceedings.

Nobody else involved in the incident was transported to an area hospital or needed immediate medical attention.
