Two young people were reported as causing a disturbance on Washington Street at 2:52 a.m. Thursday, but they left before police arrived.
According to the caller, the young men kicked over a trash bin in a driveway, and when a neighbor confronted them, one of the men flashed a machete at the neighbor, then left the scene.
Police are investigating the incident.
A North Reading woman reported that her purse was stolen from her car while it was parked on Honeysuckle Road around 10:40 a.m. Thursday. Police are investigating.
An East Main Street man reported that someone had attempted to transfer $1,000 out of his bank account at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday. The bank and police are investigating.
A Sumner Street woman told police at 4:13 p.m. Wednesday that a contractor working on her property was trying to force her to pay for substandard work on her home.
When police told her to speak with civil authorities, she said the man had also threatened her. Police agreed to check on her periodically.
Police received a call reporting gunshots on Veterans Way at 11:58 a.m. Thursday, but responding officers they found a group of children who were setting off fireworks.
