JJ Nicastro fund hosts kids' day fund-raiser Saturday

Gorton’s parking lot off Main Street will be bustling with activity this Saturday with a variety of kids games and events — all part of the annual JJ Nicastro Foundation Fun Day 4 Kidz festival.

The event, which is slated to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature an inflatable carnival – with bounce houses, an obstacle course, a boxing ring, giant slide, dunk tank and much more.

The carnival will also offer hot dogs and hamburgers, face painting, slush drinks, and a number of other kids games and prizes.

The event is being held as a fund-raiser for the JJ Nicastro Foundation, which each year awards scholarships to Gloucester student-athletes to help offset their school user fees, whether they be for sports or theater.

The foundation and the Saturday festival are both in tribute to JJ Nicastro, the young Gloucester athlete who suddenly came down with a heart-related virus and died at the age of 12 in July 2007.

The JJ Nicastro Foundation also awards annual college scholarships to graduating GHS seniors.
