Rockport band seeking more participants

ROCKPORT — Wanted: Musicians for the clown band that is always among the crowd favorites at the Rockport Fourth of July parade.

The Rockport Fishermen's Clown Band, led by George Ramsden in his red longjohns and conducting with his standard plunger, is comprised of a group of volunteer musicians who have stepped up to march in the town's Independence Day Parade. And they'll be doing so for the 49th consecutive time tonight, when the parade steps off at 6.

Ramsden said the band is still welcoming any and all horn players who can read fundamental music. The Rockport school band provides the drummers.

"Participants dress in outlandish costume," he added, from polka-dot shirts to fancy colored wigs or any way they choose. The band will meet at 5 p.m. at the Rockport Middle and High School music room.
