ESSEX — A 30-year-old Essex man backed his commercial vehicle into a police cruiser Saturday, causing minor damage, according to police.

According to police, the Essex man's vehicle bumped into the police cruiser in the Ernie's Service Station, where police were filling the car's gasoline tank. The collision broke one of the cruiser's headlights and caused other minor cosmetic damage to the cruiser, police said. The other vehicle was unharmed.

The police cruiser was repaired and back on the road Monday, police said.

Police received a report of a distressed snapping turtle in a Wise Avenue resident's yard Sunday, according to police.

Police responded to the home at 5:12 p.m., and the turtle was moved into the woods near the home, police said.
