Man charged on warrants lived under alias

Police Sunday morning arrested a man who had been wanted on five outstanding warrants that date back 10 years and who had been living under a false name at Patriots Circle.

According to police, Brian S. Mazola, 43, had been wanted on outstanding warrants for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of accident, threatenting to commit assault, stalking, assault and battery and several motor vehicle violations.

In the wake of Sunday’s arrest. police said they will also charge him with providing a false name to a police officer, operating with a suspended license and a felony charge of having an altered license, police said.

According to police, officers acting on information found Mazola at the residence where he had been living with a family member under the name Richard Bellerose.

Mazola told police who came to the residence Sunday that his name was Richard Bellerose, and provided police with a Tennessee driver’s license under that name, but police recognized him as Mazola. Mazola then told police that the Tennessee license was fake and that the 10-year-old warrants were for him, and police seized the fake license, before arresting Mazola and transporting him to the police station.

An officer at the station recognized Mazola as a man he had verbally warned for a traffic violation last Wednesday, drawing the driving with a suspended license charge against Mazola, police said.

Police said that a Richard Bellerose, the alias name Mazola used, is wanted on two warrants as well — one out of Lawrence and the other out of Salem. Police were unable to determine whether those warrants are for Mazola or a real Bellerose.
