Gloucester Police/Fire: Shopping bag assault leads to arrest

Police arrested 54-year-old Ronald J. Heckman of Millet Street on charges of domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, after a person reported witnessing Heckman using a full shopping bag to strike a woman at Walgreen’s, according to police.

The witness pointed Heckman out to police and told an officer that Heckman had been arguing loudly with a woman, then struck the woman’s face with a bag he was carrying, police said.

Police arrested a 70-year-old city resident on a probation warrant Tuesday at 9:12 a.m., according to police.

Joyce Wood was arrested on the warrant at her Summer Street home, according to the police report. The report did not give any further information regarding the initial warrant.

Police arrested John M. Gray, 43, of River Road for driving with a revoked license, after stopping Gray for failure to stop at a posted sign at the corner of Essex Avenue and Lawrence Mountain Road Wednesday about 6:43 a.m.

Police are investigating a report of a chainsaw stolen from the back of a pickup truck that had been parked at the methadone clinic at Addison Gilbert Hospital Tuesday about 10 a.m.

The chainsaw, valued at about $250, is orange and white with a 20-inch blade, the saw’s owner told police. The man told police he had parked in the far corner of the lot near some bushes, and the hospital told police there are no cameras in that area.
