Stormy day, rocky roads

The storm and storm surge that whipped across Cape Ann for much of Thursday forced the temporary shutdown of two roads in Rockport.

Sections of Marmion Way and Penzance Road were both shut down due to coastal flooding conditions, and because the storm thrust pebbles and boulders from the coastline up onto the roadway.

The hit was the second of the season for that section of Penzance Road, which was also shut down for several days in the aftermath of the Blizzard of 2013 on Feb. 8-9. It was not clear as of Thursday night whether either of the roads would be reopened today.
