Rockport Ramblings: Plans for Rockport's egg hunt in the works

The 22nd annual Rockport Community Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 7, at Millbrook Meadow starting, promptly at 2 p.m. — weather and meadow conditions permitting.

The Rockport Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the event, with Amy Beaton Ruiter leading the organizing committee.

Pre-school children will be grouped in one section of the meadow, and kindergartners and first-graders in another.

In addition to assorted candies and chocolates, the hunt will also feature a number of special eggs to be redeemed for prizes. An appearance by the Easter bunny is also anticipated.

Wiedtiz scholarship

The late and beloved Rockport music teacher Linda Wiedtiz continues to touch students through a music scholarship in her name. A special free concert on Tuesday will be dedicated to her.

Rockport High School music groups, under the direction of Jim Davison, will present a concert dedicated to the Linda Wieditz Memorial Scholarship, featuring the Rockport High School Jazz Ensemble and the Rockport High School Chorus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Shalin Liu Performance Center.

The concert is free, although donations will be accepted at intermission and in the lobby. A reception will follow the concert on the third floor.

Those not attending who wish to contribute may do so, by mail: The Linda Wieditz Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 191, Rockport, MA 01966.

The Wieditz Memorial scholarship is awarded to Rockport High School graduates who plan to further their studies in music or drama.

Wiedtiz taught music in Rockport for 14 years, and was also the artistic director for many school productions.

She died in a scuba diving accident in 2003 in the Caribbean. Her colleagues established the scholarship fund in her memory, and every year since 2005, a $1,000 scholarship has been awarded at Rockport High School graduation.

Quick hits

"The Merry Wives of Windsor" will be the topic of discussion for the next Shakespeare Readers group at Rockport Public Library Monday at 4 p.m. As preparation for that meeting and entertainment for the general public, the library will air a video of the production Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Brenner Friends Room.

RUNA, a Celtic ensemble, will perform at the First Congregation Church of Rockport at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, as part of the Old Sloop Coffeehouse series.

Tickets bought in advance are $10, while tickets at the door are $12 for adults, with reduced costs for seniors and children.

Popular novelist Margot Livesey will speak at Rockport Public Library on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Brenner Friends Room.

Her latest book, "The Flight of Gemma Hardy," is a modern variation of "Jane Eyre", set in Scotland in the 1960s.

The Friends of the Library March Book Sale will be held Friday and next Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, March 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Hardcover books, paper backs, children's books, and videos in good condition are available for sale. All profits got to supplement services at the library including children's programs, the author speaker series, the cabin fever movies series, and museum passes.

Finally, don't forget to move your clocks forward one hour Sunday morning!

Daylight savings time begins this weekend.
