Firefighters douse Western Avenue car blaze

A Western Avenue man’s vehicle caught fire shortly after he parked it at his home Wednesday about 7:48 a.m., according to police.

Police said the man heard the horn blare on his 2001 Dodge Dakota, looked outside and saw that his car had caught fire.

Gloucester firefighters extinguished the fire and the man arranged for his vehicle to be towed, according to police.

A 72-year-old Essex Avenue woman was transported by helicopter to a hospital after her car struck the concrete wall of the water treatment plant on Magnolia Avenue Tuesday about 6:12 p.m., according to police.

The woman told police she was feeling pain in her neck, head, chest and abdomen, after the airbag in her vehicle deployed and struck her. The Fire Department rescue squad determined that the woman required a medical helicopter flight, and the woman was transported to Stage Fort Park and flown to the hospital from there.

Tally’s towed the woman’s car, police said. No charges were filed.

Police quieted a “loud group” of people on Whittemore Street Tuesday about 2:33 a.m., after a person reported the allegedly loud activities to police. Police said officers spoke to the apartment tenant and the tenant agreed to lower the volume of music playing.

Guests left the apartment when police arrived, according to police.

An officer dragged a deer carcass into the woods, after finding the dead deer, missing one leg, in the Western Avenue roadway near the soccer field Monday about 11:54 p.m., according to police.

Police sent what is thought to be a deer heart for testing in Boston, after a woman walking her dog found the heart on Dogtown Road Sunday about 8:55 a.m., according to police. The Cherry Street woman had been walking her dog and noticed the dog had something in its mouth; the heart. She reported it to police immediately, and police believe it is a deer heart.

Police arrested two men after receiving reports of a possible domestic abuse situation at a Staten Street home Saturday about 2:59 a.m., according to police.

Luis O. Hernandez, 22, of Staten Street and Kelvin W. Amparo, 20, of Beverly were both arrested at the Staten Street home, according to police.

Police are charging a 26-year-old Manchester woman with providing alcohol to a minor after the Magnolia Avenue woman and her 19-year-old boyfriend from Springfield were reported as “intoxicated” and “passed out” at 21 Main St. Saturday about 9:44 p.m., according to police.

Luba Armington, who faces charges of providing the alcohol to a person younger than 21, was picked up by her father, police said. The 19-year-old was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital for medical assistance with his intoxication, police said.
