Rockport Police/Fire; Downed tree snags traffic on Nugent Stretch

Rockport Police/Fire

ROCKPORT — The Department of Public Works cleared a tree from the roadway on the Nugent Stretch of Route 127 after police received multiple reports about the downed tree blocking traffic about 2:56 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters put out a blaze that ignited from sparks on a Cathedral Avenue telephone pole Thursday about 8 p.m., according to police. Police said there was no damage except burning on the pole.

A telephone pole behind the police station also sparked with fire Thursday about 5:10 p.m., but the rain tampered out any flames and National Grid responded to repair the pole, police said.

Firefighters freed a 3-year-old child who had accidentally locked himself in the bathroom of a Main Street residence Friday about 9:58 a.m., according to police.
