Rockport officials often encourage resident participation. In that spirit, selectmen are asking residents to submit photos for consideration for the front and back covers of Rockport’s 2012 Annual Town Report.
To submit a photo, either email them as an attachment to Senior Administrative Assistant Debbie Powers at email@example.com or bring them by the selectmen’s office at Town Hall by Jan.17.
Selectmen will select the winning photos during their meeting scheduled for Jan. 22.

Farewell party for Peter Watson
The memorial for Peter Watson, a lifelong newspaperman and former longtime editor of the Gloucester Daily Times, brought together colleagues and friends from across the country last Saturday at the Shalin Liu Performance Center for a celebration of his life.
People representing different parts of Peter’s life shared their stories, starting with his childhood in Rockport, his journalism career, his passion for running and politics, followed by words from his family. The speakers all talked of Peter’s infectious sense of fun, his passion and commitment, and his ability to keep and maintain friendships. The speakers all had connections to Cape Ann.
“The reception at the (Rockport) Art Association felt like the party we wanted it to be, with most of those attending the service also going to the art association. In addition to appetizers and beer and wine, some of Dad’s local favorites were served, clam chowder from Woodman’s, St. Joseph sandwiches from Virgilio’s and grape tonic from Twin Lights,” said sons Seth and Jared Watson. “There was a great mix of people from all parts of Dad’s life, lots of locals, neighbors, a great showing from the Team Gloucester running team, and a reunion of Gloucester Times and Essex County Newspapers employees from all over the country.”
