Thefts at Subday's tied to car in Lawrence

---- — Police are investigating a theft of eight tires and “several” rims from vehicles parked on the Sudbay’s Jeep Chrysler dealership on Causeway Street about 4:40 a.m. Thursday — all in connection with the discovery of a car that was found taken from a nearby street and recovered in Lawrence earlier this week.

According to Gloucester police, two suspects stole the items and loaded them into a 1995 tan Honda Accord that was later reported stolen and found abandoned in Lawrence with damage to the ignition and steering column.

The car itself was reported stolen from a Concord Street driveway.

“This is located almost across from the Route 128 Exit 13 off ramp,” police said, noting the home’s proximity to the Sudbay dealership.

According to the police report, cameras on the lot captured two suspects parking at an adjacent property, then walking across to the Sudbay’s lot and taking spare tires mounted on the backs of Jeep vehicles. The surveillance footage then shows suspects unscrewing lug nuts to remove tires and rims from two Hondas parked in another section of the lot, according to police.

The suspects rolled the tires from the Jeeps over to the Hondas, then drove the stolen vehicle into the lot and loaded all of the tires and rims into the stolen vehicle, a 1995 tan Honda Accord station wagon.

Police were unable to see the license plates on the vehicle in security camera footage, according to the report. Police said suspects seemed aware of the location of security cameras.

“The suspects were very aware of the location of the video cameras on the property and could be seen turning their heads away while going back and forth in front of cameras,” police wrote.

The suspects spent about an hour at the lot, police said.
