---- — ESSEX — The youngest pupils at Essex Elementary School last week learned about how a book is created, from the birth of an idea to a published story.

Teaching the school’s kindergartners and first-graders about creating a book was author and illustrator Brian Lies of Duxbury, who has illustrated 26 books for children. He has written five of those 26 and is best known for his New York Times bestselling “Bats” series: “Bats at the Beach,” “Bats at the Library” and “Bats at the Ballgame.”

Lies’ visit to Essex Elementary was supported by the Spaulding Education Fund and the Essex Elementary PTO.
