Winter storm warning for tonight, with 4"-8" of snow in sight

Another significant winter storm that could bring between 4 and 8 inches of new snow, then follow with an extended period of sleet and rain, is due to hit Cape Ann beginning tonight and carrying well into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.

The weather service has issued a winter storm warning covering Essex County for the time period from 9 o’clock tonight all the way through 8 p.m. tomorrow. The heaviest periods of snow are expected to be between late tonight and Tuesday morning, with accumulations dependent on the transition of the storm from snow to sleet and rain.

The AccuWeather forecast is also calling for an accumulation of 4-8 inches on Cape Ann, though from 6-10 inches farther north and west and up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation in some locations. Forecasts also call for winds of 5-15 miles per hour, with wind gusts up to 35 mph, and visibility limited to a half-mile or less.
