A rash of car break-ins once again have police warning residents to keep their car doors locked and valuables out of sight.de
By 3 p.m. yesterday, police had received reports of five break-ins. All but one of the cars had unlocked doors and were parked in driveways and yards.
The break-ins were reported from all corners of the city.
The first call to police was from a Quarry Street woman at midnight Monday. She told police she was walking her dog and came back to find her Audi sedan, which was locked, had been broken into while parked on Dogtown Road.
Her purse, with $50, credit cards, and a checkbook was stolen. The thief gained access to the vehicle by smashing the rear, driver side window with a rock, police said.
The next call came at 8:15 yesterday morning when a Lawrence Mountain Road woman told police her unlocked car had been entered overnight and ransacked. She added nothing appeared to be missing.
A Bond Street woman, who called police at 8:42 a.m., was not as lucky. Someone stole a GPS, iPod, iPod adapter and Playstation game from her vehicle, which she said had been left unlocked.
Maenwhile, a Hesperus Avenue man's vehicle registration was reported stolen from his unlocked Nissan sedan at 11:09 a.m. yesterday.
Finally, at 3:11 yesterday afternoon, a Witham Street man reported laptops stolen from his unlocked vehicle.

A Gloucester man was arrested Monday night after police responded a Washington Street residence for a report of an intruder causing damage to the home.
John W. Campbell, 31, of 12 Green St., was charged with domestic assault and battery at 6:34 p.m. after reportedly striking a 25-year-old Washington Street man.
Authorities notified the Department of Public Works after it was discovered a manhole cover was missing on School Street near the Fire Station at 6:27 yesterday morning. The DPW put a cone over the hole until a replacement could be installed.
A disruptive guest at the Sawyer Free Library was removed by police and transported by ambulance to Addison Gilbert Hospital for detoxification at 2:18 p.m. yesterday.
A Commercial Street resident reported suspicious activity at 3:15 yesterday afternoon. The person told police pictures inside the home had been "moved around."
Rescuers transported a 47-year-old Concord Street woman who fell and hurt her ribs to Addison Gilbert Hospital at 12:42 a.m. yesterday.
