Gloucester Police Wednesday managed to free a sailboat that had become stuck in the channel directly beneath the Blynman Bridge Wednesday at 4:50 p.m.
Officers found the boat lodged sideways in the canal, and had to remove it with the police boat.
The incident kept the bridge up for several minutes, with traffic backed up on both sides of Western Avenue until officers could free the boat and officials could lower the bridge.
A large tom turkey kept West Parish Students from going outside Thursday at 11:44 a.m., according to school officials and Gloucester police.
According to police, Jean Perry, school principal, called and told officers that the turkey was holding students "hostage" inside the building by making a lot of noise and acting aggressively.
Police sent an officer to the scene, but the turkey left before he arrived.
A man called police from Jim's Bagel and Bake Shoppe Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. after a customer allegedly started an anti-semitic rant.
The suspect had left before police arrived, but officers told the caller to call if the man showed up and did the same thing again.
Police received a call from a Beacon Street resident, Wednesday at 4:13 p.m., who said she saw a person going through a nearby Dumpster. When police arrived, the caller said the person had left. Police there also told her to call if he came back.
A Cedarwood Road resident called police at 4:58 p.m. and said she saw a man in the woods watching her children play in the yard. Police searched the area, but didn't find the man. Officers again told the woman to call back if she saw the man again.
