Mother's Day crafts
Manchester Public Library is holding a Mother's Day crafts session at 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 5.
Participants can use glue, watercolors, paper, trim, scissors and more to make special Mother's Day cards for moms, grandmothers, aunts or that friend who has always been like a mother.
"Volunteen" applications for Manchester Public Library's summer program are now available at the Children's Room desk and front desk.
The library relies on enthusiastic, responsible students to keep its many programs and huge amounts of reading flowing. At least 15 hours over the course of the summer are expected, and volunteens must have completed fifth grade this spring to commit to volunteering at this level. Call Sara Collins, head of youth services, 978-526-2016, or email scollins@mvlc.org, with any questions.
Also, the Friends of the Manchester Public Library annual meeting will take place Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at the Manchester Community Center. After a short meeting the guest speaker will be Larry Vincent, author of "In Search of Motif No. 1: The History of a Fish Shack."
Rotary auction
The Manchester-Essex Rotary Club's 2012 Auction event is Saturday, May 12, at the American Legion Hall in Manchester from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, which includes a wine and cheese tasting, a full dinner and desserts by The Landing restaurant and a silent auction helmed by state Sen. Bruce Tarr.
Auction items this year include Red Sox tickets, tickets to see Pink Floyd's "The Wall" at Fenway, Patriots tickets, and tons of gift certificates for local businesses and golf outings.
Tickets are available at People's United Bank in Manchester, The Landing, Parks & Recreation office in Manchester, or call Dave at 978-479-5014.
Auction proceeds help support the Manchester-Essex Rotary Scholarship fund — $13,500 was awarded at graduation in 2011 — and the club's many community service projects each year.
