Gloucester Police/Fire

Incidents

Police responded to Caffe Dolce on Main Street Sunday afternoon after an employee reported an elderly man causing a disturbance.

The employee, who declined to press charges, told police the man threw pamphlets around the shop's hallway, cut a billboard and stole a movie poster.

Police later caught up with the 86-year-old man at the White Hen Pantry, and recovered Caffe Dolce's movie poster from his bag, which was in the backseat of a waiting taxi.

Police responded to the scene of a two-car crash at 518 Essex Ave. at 9:19 a.m. yesterday.

The first vehicle, whose driver had stopped to make the turn into his driveway, was rear-ended by a second vehicle driven by an Essex man. The Essex man's car sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene by Tally's; however, no one was injured in the crash.

An Eastern Point man reported early yesterday morning that someone broke the passenger side window of his 2002 Chevrolet Malibu sometime overnight.

At 12:36 yesterday afternoon, a Cherry Street woman reported someone stole a 24-foot, aluminum ladder from her driveway sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

A Larose Avenue man called police at 3:27 p.m. yesterday to report someone forcefully entered his vehicle sometime overnight and stole a Playstation 3 game console that had been wrapped in a sweatshirt. Several CDs were also stolen.

Fire report

Police responded to 1 Andrews St. at 7:12 yesterday morning after receiving reports of flames coming out of the chimney.

The homeowner told police that he had placed a pizza box in the fireplace and flames rose up the chimney and into the house. The house filled with smoke, but there was no fire showing and the Fire Department's response was cancelled.

The Fire Department responded to a home on Essex Avenue just off the interchange with Route 128 Sunday at 8:25 p.m. after a report of an outdoor fire. Firefighters extinguished flames in an outdoor barbecue pit.

The Fire Rescue Squad transported a Page Street woman to Addison Gilbert Hospital yesterday at 2 p.m.
