Rockport Rambles: Schools host gala for scholarships

A coffee house cabaret being planned by Rockport Middle and High School for Oct. 17 will benefit a scholarship program in memory of a Class of 2011 student who lost her life to leukemia.

The event, set for 7 to 9 p.m., will be held in the Rockport Middle High School cafeteria. All proceeds will benefit the Evlin de la Barre Memorial Scholarship, in honor of 2011 graduate whose life was cut short by leukemia.

Students, alumni and faculty are invited to participate in this event, which will be a celebration of passions and creativity. Participants are encouraged to share poetry, projects, songs, dance, monologues, skits, art and other areas of interest and inspiration.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted and refreshments will be available for purchase. Anyone seeking more information may email Denise Ferazzi at

Halibut Point energy project

A number of officials from Gov. Deval Patrick’s office visited Halibut Point State Park on Friday to spread the message of Accelerated Energy Programs.

Launched in January 2012, the programs aim to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent to 25 percent in more than 700 state sites, creating about 4,000 clean energy jobs and saving the commonwealth an estimated $43 million annually.

Under the program, Halibut Point State Park is receiving new energy-efficient lighting, programmable thermostats throughout the visitor center and outreach posts, pipe insulation, weather-stripping and new insulation, which will improve heating costs.

Once complete, these upgrades will generate an estimated annual savings of $2,200.
