Gloucester Police/Fire: Police probing case of stolen rental car

A Gloucester police officer on patrol on Cleveland Street found a stolen car parked in front of a house Thursday at 7:38 a.m.

The cruiser’s license plate reader picked up the car as having been reported by Hertz Rental Cars as being stolen from Lynn.

The officer didn’t see a key with the vehicle, but found a man nearby who had one. He told the officer he was getting some things out of the car.

The officer prevented him from doing so, as the car was considered stolen property. The man said he didn’t take the car, but wouldn’t tell the officer who did. Police are continuing to investigate.

A Pearl Street woman told police, Wednesday at 4:18 p.m. that a friend had opened an electrical account in her name, and had run up a $676.62 bill.

The reporting woman said she told the other woman she could open a gas account in her name, but not one for electric service. She said the woman had the bill sent to her residence on Pearl Street, rather than the woman’s home on Burnham Street.

Police are investigating.

A Washington Street resident called police at 1:10 a.m. on Thursday after he came home and found his father was missing, and asked police to keep an eye out for him.

Officers searched and checked Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospital for the man’s father but couldn’t find him. The man called back later in the morning, however, and said his father had returned from New Hampshire.

Police responded to a report of a loud, intoxicated man in a Washington Street residence at 2:42 a.m. They found that the man was staying with his mother, who lived at the residence.

Officers removed an unwelcome guest from the Dog Bar at 12:41 a.m. after an employee called police.

Police also responded to a report of a noisy group gathered on Kondelin Road at 12:13 a.m. Thursday. Officers dispersed the group without incident.
