---- — HarvestFest rolls into town today, with the outdoor downtown festival running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event, centering around T-Wharf, features cooking demonstrations, the annual scarecrow decorating competition, music by various bands, a group of jugglers, and an array of New England foods under the tent, including chowder, cider doughnuts, maple sugar products, and Cape Ann Brewery’s locally-made beer on tap.

After eating, fairgoers can also vote for their favorite scarecrow on display, and children have the chance to build their own musical instruments, courtesy of Rockport Music.

Happy HarvestFest to all!

Silver is quiz master

Rockport High School sophomore Corey Silver was the high scorer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s national high school quiz bowl tournament this year.

A team of Rockport students competed at the Sept. 22 event, and the Rockport team placed third. Silver individually scored 1,085 points, more than 100 above the second highest individual scorer, who checked in with 915.

Nasa Club benefit

Rockport’s after-school Nasa Club will host a cookie sale at the town’s landfill next Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the sale will fund the club, creating opportunities for field trips and purchasing group T-shirts.
