Appraisal Night draws wide range of people, items

One person brought a pre-World War II teddy bear, another came with a 13-star American flag thought to be from the days of the 1876 national centennial, a third arrived with a 19th-century pilot’s chart.

They were among those who were able to get a sense of their pieces’ value from professional appraisers Tuesday night, during the fourth annual Antiques Appraisal Night, hosted by the Essex Merchants Group and the Essex Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Organization at Periwinkles restaurant in Essex.

Those bringing items paid for the appraisal service, with proceeds going to benefit the merchants and the PTO.

The appraisers included members from the Essex antiques community, including Michael March of Blackwood March Auctioneers, David Neligan of Neligan Antiques, Ed Howard of the Flying Dragon, Michael Bider of Bider’s Antiques Auctions & Appraisers, Robert Coviello of Main Street Antiques, Vincent Caravella of All Prints and Maps and Rick Grobe of the White Elephant Shop.
