ESSEX — Police are investigating a reported hit-and-run accident that allegedly occurred on Eastern Avenue Saturday about 6:34 p.m.
According to police, one driver reportedly side-swiped a parked vehicle, then made a u-turn.
Police said the owner of the vehicle that was struck flagged the driver down near Farnham’s, and the two motorists began to exchange information, but when the owner of the parked vehicle noted that the other driver’s breath smelled of alcohol, the other driver drove off.
Police said the owner of the parked vehicle took down the plate number, and officers said the vehicle is registered to a Manchester residence.
Police received a report of an abandoned boat in the Essex River Sunday about 11:02 p.m., and the deputy harbormaster is contacting the owner to ask the person to remove the boat.
A person got lost in Essex after leaving a party at a Winthrop Street residence after an argument with friends Saturday about 1:32 a.m., according to police. The lost person reached the police station, and police reunited the person with the Winthrop Street residents.
Police received a report of a white horse running loose in the roadway on Southern Avenue near Apple Street, but were unable to locate a horse when they arrived in the area Saturday about 9:46 a.m., according to police.
The Fire Department Rescue Squad transported a person who walked into the police station suffering a medical condition to Beverly Hospital Friday about 6:05 p.m., according to fire officials.
The Fire Department Rescue transported a Pond Street resident to Beverly Hospital Saturday about 7:22 p.m., according to police.
Firefighters also responded Sunday at 2:19 p.m. to a Story Street Apartment complex for an oven fire. Officials said that the fire, which started when a resident turned on the oven without realizing there was food in it, was contained within the appliance. Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the building to remove smoke, officials said.
